Margaret River Chardonnay 2016 (12-pack)

$240.00 $192.00

Sourced from the Margaret River sub-region of Ellensbrook, this contemporary chardonnay exhibits all the hallmarks of the cool South West. Lifted stone-fruit and melon flavours are balanced by subtle lees and hints of smoky oak. Cellar confidently – this wine will develop beautiful toasty characters over time.

Vineyard: The 2016 Margaret River Chardonnay is made from fruit grown on two distinctive vineyards. The majority from the Herron’s Lake vineyard with its unique limestone-speckled soils that enhance the fresh acidity and life in this wine.  The Grace vineyard in Cowaramup provides some added body and ample fruit characters.

Harvest: Fruit was hand-harvested and gently whole-pressed with 25 per cent fermented in new French oak.

Winemaking:  The hand-harvested fruit was chilled overnight before whole bunch pressing. A portion was transferred to new French oak where fermentation began. The remainder was fermented in stainless steel. Both components were left on lees for several months to build middle palate structure before bottling and blending.

Nose:  This medium-bodied, stylish chardonnay exhibits stone-fruit and hints of oak on the bouquet.

Palate:  The palate is fresh and lively now, and will develop toasty characters as the wine matures.

Food:  Ideally suited to fresh shell-fish & grilled seafood or lightly sauced white meats.

Cellaring:  Inviting now, the wine will develop further complexity with careful cellaring in the medium term (2-5 years).

A very young chardie at the time of tasting yet it had come together beautifully.

It’s had a wave of oak over it but in the main this is fruit driven with plenty of creamy melon and slightly edgy lemon zest to balance.

Lovely lick of acid on the finish.

Best in the short-term. 89/100
